It was hot and steamy on Sunday June 25 at Norfolk’s Federal Courthouse; nevertheless dozens gathered to observe the 365th day in America without a federally protected right to abortion.
Grassroots activists Ammie Pascua from HRRJJL, Madison Dalrymple from PPAV, and Michyah Thomas from ReproRising spoke about their personal challenges and their motivations to fight for our freedoms.
And we were honored to be joined by Senator Aaron Rouse, Delegate Kelly Convirs-Fowler (candidate for HD96), Delegate Angelia Williams-Graves (candidate for SD22), Bonita Anthony (candidate for HD92), Jeremy Rodden (candidate for HD90) and Michael Feggans (candidate for HD97). All of the speakers told the group about the importance of getting out the vote this November.
Carrie and Heidi, the fearless leaders of COVA Coalition served as emcees and whipped up the crowd with encouraging words about activism and women’s rights. It was COVA Coalition’s “coming out party,” serving as its first public event. Not too shabby, ladies! We rocked it!
